Greetings From The Pit

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

The Pits of Mordor Yes, it's been a while since my last update. There are a number of reasons for this, among them the fact that I was away for a week. Let's try to catch up a bit.

First of all, March Resolutions is progressing nicely. The orc horde is almost done, but more on that in a couple of days.

On to Kickstarter. As you must have heard by now, Rick Priestley's Antares kickstarter was cancelled. Despite the respectable amount of pledges gathered was becoming painfully obvious it wasn't going to meet its goals, I guess cancellation was a more graceful exit in a way.

But that doesn't mean there is a dearth of interesting miniatures projects on Kickstarter.

Two projects I backed just got funded. I should be getting some French WWI halflings and some blue guys in the near future.

The Pits of Mordor And then there's still new Warzone and Victorian Sci-Fi and even dragon skirmish coming! Quite frankly this is getting too much for my wallet. Most miniatures kickstarters are 100-150e investments if you really intend to get the most of them and when they all come close to each other, one just has to make hard choices.

Out of these I guess I'm putting my money on the Empire of the Dead. Quite frankly I'm not hugely interested in the game itself, but I do love Victorian Sci-Fi and building a full cityscape has long been one of my ambitions. This kickstarter seems to be a good way to get relatively cheap carriages for the city. And Osprey is coming out with a new ruleset this spring as well (nevermind the couple I already own).

I already own a pile of Warzone figures and the dragon game only has a couple of nice minis going for it...

Oh, and I even forgot about Alessio's fantasy chess game. Unfortunately Alessio's pitch left me bit cold, but it did bring forth memories of one of my favourite games of my youth -- Archon -- which I played quite a bit on my Commodore 64 back in the day. As I happen to have a bunch of giant chessboards left by my late grandfather (who actually was a chess player of some renown), maybe I'll resurrect Archon in miniatures form. Yes, I know the Archon board was actually 9x9 squares. Some adjustments will be necessary... I'm not looking to replicate the game exactly, I'm looking to capture its spirit.

Wreck Factory But that is not all, as they say. I've also been working on my first tutorial video. That's been considerably slower than I tought, partly due to the considerable drying times in the terrain project I chose for the video. Now I understand why Pata Kakkonen usually made the dish twice: once to show how it's prepared and once to show the final product without wasting time actually cooking it onscreen.

But even that is finally nearing completion. As I have maybe 90 minutes of raw footage, I'll have to do some major editing to pare it down to watchable length...

P.S. I've been hesitant to post without new pictures, which tends to lead to not posting because I haven't had the time to photograph what I've been working on or the pictures are still in the camera. One thing I won't do is adorn these posts with pictures skimmed from the net, but I could post more often if I left out the pictures or just used some of the old ones when there are no new ones available.

Let me know what you think, enter a comment below.
