Resolutions July: More Orcy Goodness!

Jul 30, 2013 10:17

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Orcy Goodness! It wasn't even close.

I read that in a book last weekend. I read three books last weekend. I could do that because the books were all really good (kudos to Mr. Scalzi) and because the July resolution was finished early despite my doubts and numerous challenges.

To continue last month's trend, I dug up my Fantasy Warriors orcs and chose the archers for painting. Since there were only 20 archers, I supplemented them with ten classic style orcs from my old Battlemasters set. I've painted most of the Battlemasters figures long ago, but some remain... I think the goblin wolf riders and chaos archers are still hiding somewhere. Thirty classic single part, single pose plastic figures. Should be ok to do.

Then someone tried to sabotage my work. They left free orc figures at the club and I just had to pick up ten of them. These were old Warhammer starter box figures, from the box that had Empire and orcs. I don't recall which edition it was but who cares... ten extra figures, a whopping one third more work. Would I chicken out and not include them in the resolutions unit?

Orcy Goodness! No way! I took the extra figures and painted them with the rest of them. To add insult to injury, I mounted them on illegal bases and gave unsanctioned paint schemes. These orcs will never again fight in an official GW tournament! Ha!

No, seriously, thanks for the figures.

Ironically, it turned out that the new figures were actually easier to paint. They have less separate detail parts compared to the archers which appear simple figures at first glance but actually have surprising amount of belts, knives and other accessories hanging about.

Next month... I really must paint my new Africans, but since they are new figures they can't count for the resolutions. Hmmm... gotta think about that one...
