Sea Of Trees

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Sea of Trees I've wanted to do this game for quite some time now. Well, maybe not this game specifically, but rather this table. When I started packing my stuff up for the game, I was slightly worried about lugging all that stuff to the club. In the end it took three trips from the car to get everything sorted out.

But even if I say it myself, the effort was worth it. The table turned out just like I had planned it. Even the little surprise in the jungle panned out pretty well (though I should have added more of them and made them a little more deadly).

The game itself was getting bigger and bigger, we had five different companies competing for the elusive Red Herring. I must say the turn structure and activation system of the game was really creaking under the stress. I think I will have to invent some house rules at least for these larger games.

Sea of Trees I think we have the basic game pretty well under control by now. Some problems arise when players grab new things without familiarizing with the rules first, so we had a machinegun running around the board until in the final turn it turned out the be a bog standard carbine after all. And another player upgraded his soldiers to hunting rifles but forgot the hunter talent...

Another problem I found is with the "once per game" benefits, e.g. fanatic. When multiple rank and file troopers have the same thing, it gets difficult to remember who has used his and who hasn't. And no, putting stupid counters on the table is not a solution. Also goes for remembering who actually moved and how far.

That said, I definitely want to create another game with this table setup. It just needs a little more refinement and some more accessories. Back to work, I say!

For the next game I have something a little different planned... but it's a surpise.

P.S. And I didn't even use all my hills. Not even all the gray ones.
