Something Old, Something Blue

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Something Blue Last weekend I started something new. I was a bit preoccupied with our Hail Caesar game (see bloginator for pics) but I still managed to drag out my Perry ACW plastic box set.

I got this as a freebie a few years ago, possibly with my Wargames Illustrated subscription. While I've thought about ACW many times (something about the apparent simplicity of the setup appeals to me), I've never really done anything about it. Well, I finally stopped dragging my feet and took this box to paint as a test set. And as I've had it for ages, it will also count towards September resolutions.

The box contains three identical sprues of 12 figures each. The newer boxes actually contain more figures and more build options. As these are Perry -style figures, some of the details are a bit flimsy. Especially the standard pole, I'll probably replace that with a brass rod or something before it breaks. Or maybe I should just get metal command groups...

Something Blue Cleaning and assembling the figures was pretty simple. I actually like that half the figures have just one part (apart from the hat options). Theoretically you can even leave the hat off, if you don't mind some male pattern baldness among your troops.

So next it's sticking these onto washers, priming and painting them. Let's see how this works out.

Oh, and there's a little something extra visible in the background. I'm making a special gift set.
