Resolutions October: The Foot is Loose

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Foot soldiers We are getting close! Only two more batches to do! This month I painted these excellent Hundred Years' War infantry from Black Tree. I've had these for quite a while but never got around to painting them, which was really a shame since they are very nice figures and rather easy to paint too.

The nice thing about ancient and medieval historical figures is that they are typically very clean with few extraneous details. For some reason when similar figures are made in fantasy ranges, the sculptors jam them full of coin purses, daggers, oversize jewelry etc. -- even in the subdued cases that are not adorned with spikes and skulls. All that really does is make the figures slower to paint in bulk without really adding any value. Extra detail is nice when you're doing single character models, but when you're trying to churn out units the extra time for the knickknacks really adds up.

These are really useful figures. In addition to the obvious medieval battles, they'll be right at home in any generic pseudo-medieval fantasy army, I think I saw pretty similar attires in Game of Thrones and mayhap they might be smuggled into a Bretonnian army as well.

Foot soldiers Sorry about the lack of updates, there's been stuff going on and I just didn't have the time write entries. There's been some positive development, but more about that in the next update...

Unfortunately I must say my Portuguese are stalling. There's just too much stuff on the plate right now, I haven't been able to get to them. And I must say I am a bit intimidated by the batch size. Maybe I should do them 16 at a time or something.
