Democracy in 2014

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Resolutions 2014 I promised this, so here it is. My New Year's Resolution for 2014 will be to paint everything in one of these boxes. But which box? That is where you come in. Vote in the comments below before New Year's Eve, and the box with the most votes will be selected.

Feels like buying a pig in a bag, doesn't it? Well, to be quite frank I don't really recall myself exactly what is in these boxes. They all have figures that have been lying there on the back row of the shelf for at least five years. Yes, I said back row... and it's far from the only shelf...

Some of them are more full than others, but all the boxes are roughly the same size. To save you from zooming on the picture, here are the labels, left-to-right, starting from top left corner:

WWII 25mm: The fact that it says 25mm instead of 28mm tells something of the age. The remainder of my old WWII figures, I presume. Should not be a huge quantity and this box is actually slightly smaller than the others.

Monster/Dragon: Dragons and other larger than mansized fantasy monsters. Probably not a huge amount, but maybe enough for monster of the month?

Dwarf: Short guys. Probably some Chronopia figures mixed in with regular fantasy dwarves.

Medieval: My huge pile of archers is not in this box. I think there is a random collection of old Grenadier Fantasy Warriors and other pseudo-medieval figures.

Space Naval: Lots of little space ships from various sources. Probably even GW, but not the ones you were thinking of.

Undead: I think I have painted most of my basic undead infantry, so this probably has specialty units like undead rhinos and stuff.

19th Century: Wild west and colonials, mostly for Africa. Vast majority should be Foundry's Darkest Africa.

Reptile: All sorts of lizardmen, even some GW mixed in but not the latest ones.

Elf: Pointy-eared snobs. Not sure if my Chronopia elves are there. No idea where the rest of them came from.

Oriental: Random collection of very old pseudo-oriental figures. Could be mongols, could be chinese, could be anything.

Orc: Despite my best efforts, there's still plenty of orcy goodness left in this box.

Flintloque: Last but not least: Long time ago I thought about starting Flintloque and bought these figures. I painted a couple of them but then the subject was dropped mostly because I suck at Napoleonic uniforms and because no one else seemed interested in it. If you are evil, you will vote for this box.

How this will work

First, you get to vote for the box. Deadline for this is December 31st, 2013. Just put your choice in the comments below.

On January 1st 2014 I will take out the selected box, count and display its contents for all the world to see, and split it into work lots.

Then I will paint at least one lot every month until they are done, reporting progress at every stage.

P.S. As an additional incentive, if I fail to paint all the selected figures in 2014, I will send the remainder to a randomly selected voter. Post free, where ever you live (restricted to planet Earth).

Skeleton Rhinos sound badass!

Space naval!

Small Cuts Tony (guest) Dec 17, 2013 10:30

It has to be the Flintloque Minis.

(And don't feel too bad, as I'm sure I have even more unpainted lead than you).

Monsters Icchan (guest) Dec 17, 2013 10:33

Monsters lead the way!

Flintloque Craig (guest) Dec 17, 2013 11:03

Gotta be Flintloque :) The minis and background are superb and there's more 'Loquers' out there than you think.

Oriental Teemu Kujala (guest) Dec 17, 2013 12:44

My vote goes for Oriental. These figs could see playing time if you ask me...

Medieval Ilkka (guest) Dec 17, 2013 12:44

I'm voting for the box of Medievals.

Grenadier's Fantasy Warriors has some nice minis I would like to see painted.

This is my choise! Paint them, and they get played with! Let's go back to Africa!

Loque Kurt Benson (guest) Dec 17, 2013 18:35

Flintloque from a purely fun to paint point of view. nice thing about the Napoleonic uniforms is they are well documented and the colors are easy to match with model railroad flat colors

Colonial Africa Mazikainen (guest) Dec 17, 2013 19:14

Colonial Africa! Can't have her majesty's finest in anything but tip top condition!

You might well be surprised how many players of Flintloque there are out there in the world. They are not the most vocal and many of them are offline and analogue but they are there. Besides...I would say Flintloque and nothing else!

I am voting flintloque, as I have found them to be a great set a of models, and even though I can't paint, I don't find the detail too bad, mostly as I ignore lots of it and go for simple colours.

Actually the great joy is you can choose the colours, as no good flintloquer would ever mention if you had uniform colours that varied from historical colours. Or just say you are painting models in the uniform of Muckenburg, which is purple and lemon yellow (or other sweet combinations)!

Flintloque! GMT (Evil Flintloque player) (guest) Dec 17, 2013 21:22

As an evil (and rather enthusiast) Flintloque player, I'll definitely you to urge to paint all your Flintloque stuff!

Elves Ratti (guest) Dec 18, 2013 21:38

Those pointy eared snobs need some paint on them :)

Interim count maxxon Dec 19, 2013 09:16

Flintloque seems to lead so far, this is the situation now:

Flintloque: 6 votes

19th Century: 2 votes

Undead, monsters, medieval, oriental, space and elves: all 1 vote each

Is this because Flintloque was the only actual game mentioned? One wonders... well, there is still plenty of time to vote, so keep those comments coming.

Colonials and Wild West sounds like an excellent mix!

You can never have enough Zulus, err ... Orcs Christopher TenWolde (guest) Dec 21, 2013 12:59

Orcs to fight my son's LotR (or Crimson Fists) armies! By the way - he's getting a huge pile of 28mm Romans for Christmas. :)

And we have a winner! maxxon Jan 01, 2014 10:40

Voting is now officially closed. More detailed results will be posted shortly.
