Resolutions 2014

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Flintloque stuff The people have spoken! Flintloque is the most popular game on the net with a whopping 6 votes! 19th Century was a close second with 4 votes with basically all the rest trailing behind with 1 vote each. Except WWII and the lizards, who seem to get no love at all...

So I dug out the two most popular boxes and conducted a quick head count. The Flintloque box contains elves and undead (did I mention I already painted the Deadloque basic set?). There are the figures from Lady Wintermore's Fangs box set, plus some extras I bought along the way. Rather curiously, this set contains far more cavalry than usual. Maybe I got a good deal on them? I really don't recall.

There are:

14 undead cavalry (cossacks, lancers and wraiths)

12 undead infantry (rather haphazard lot)

13 elf cavalry (seem to be cuirassiers of some sort)

26 elf infantry (pretty mixed lot)

Flintloque stuff About half of the elf infantry seem to be from some command sets. They don't have muskets and I'm not quite sure if they really are Flintloque minis at all. But they were in the box so they are going to get painted... Maybe Alternative Armies made some napoleonic-themed elves before Flintloque? If you know what they are, let me know in the comments below.

I will split this into five lots and paint one each month, starting with the undead cavalry. That means I should be ready with them before the summer. Should I fail to do this, the remaining Flintloque stuff goes to one of the people who voted for it.

But this seems a bit underwhelming, so let's take a look at the 19th. Century box. That contains:

108 Tribal Africans

16 Mexicans

Jungle Drums 45 old west figures (townsfolk, gunfighters, 7th cavalry)

19 Victorian London figures (there's a fair overlap between these two)

41 Indians, Apaches mostly

13 British colonials (explorers, officers etc.)

Let's make this more of a challenge... once the Flintloque figures are done, I will paint one unit from the 19th Century box each month. A unit shall be defined as 24 fairly coherent infantry figures, 12 cavalry or a combination thereof.

Should I fail to do this... one lucky winner will get the entire remainder of the 19th Century box.

Have I bitten off more than I chew?

Well, at the very least this won't be another zero cavalry year...

Oh yes, and one more thing:

I will not buy more figures than I paint.

Figures bought last year do not count, but neither will I go into "painting debt". That means I won't buy any new figures in January, then in February I can buy at most as many as I painted in January etc.

Terrain, gaming aids etc. are excluded. And everything still counts as one.

That should be interesting to follow... watch this blog for more details.

Nice to Win! Gavin Syme (GBS) (guest) Mar 14, 2014 19:35

Well done to Flintloque for winning. Sorry I missed this.

I might have packed that 90's box set of Undead myself many years ago.

good luck on that Kurt Benson (guest) Mar 15, 2014 19:43

I wish you luck in your painting and the hope you have none to pass on... meaning you got them all done of course.
