Project H: Orange Is The New Black

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Escaped Convicts The Heist mini campaign Dead Lead is about to start. I even finished the necessary figures with time to spare. The ones needed for the first scenario anyway, then I need to paint a few more because the star characters will get a change of wardrobe.

I made them from the Wargames Factory survivor box. They are pretty nice figures, the quality has improved a lot since their earlier attempts. While they are not quite my preferred style, I like them anyway. My only real complaint is that the figures don't have a whole lot of poseability. The bodies are stuck in single poses and they actually have a rather limited set of arms that really work with them.

The problem is heightened by the fact that you get three of each body type in the box. One office worker swinging a cricket bat might be ok, but three in the same pose starts to get silly...

I'm probably going to build most of them as unarmed civilians. Those are way too hard to come by usually. I want my gaming environments to look alive and natural instead of FPS arenas devoid of everyone except the combatants. And Dead Lead really needs potential for bystander casualties.

Complete Wargaming Onto other stuff:

* The Deadloque cavalry is almost finished. I just need to finish their basing tonight. More on that in the next update.

* I got myself a reprint of Donald Featherstone's Complete Wargaming. I'll give it a read and write a review shortly. All the old guys (even older than me) seem to make a big fuss about these, so I gotta see for myself. And in any case I think the reprint project does great work preserving the history of our hobby.

* Didn't I just clean my table a couple of weeks ago? It's overflowing with stuff again, sigh...

* I broke down and pledged for the new Super Dungeon Explore game. This is the first miniatures Kickstarter for the year and I have to figure out how it affects my paint/buy scoring. I think I'll count the figures in the set when I pledge plus any extras I specifically add money for as bought, freebie stretch goals counting as gifts.

* I bought some DUST models because they were on sale. I did not find them super cheap even at 25% off, but they seem interesting. The bendy plastic in the infantry figures is a bit worrisome, but let's paint them up and see. Maybe this really is the Holy Grail of figures that are playable straight out of the box for our brush-challenged compatriots while still being good enough for us modellers?

* My small magnets are still not here, but I'll start on the tank destroyers right after the Ferach are finished.

P.S. Yes, I know they are really plastic figures. Dead Polystyrene just sounds so stupid...
