Something To Fight Over

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Urban Items I finished painting the big pile of urban accessories I bought from Ainsty. These are top notch quality as usual and quite useful for Heist games and other urban skirmishing. I do love a nicely set up table, I think that's what really lifts up the game. Painted figures are nice, but without a nice table they only look good in studio shots. I would rather have plastic army men fighting over a pain-stakingly detailed city than Golden Demon battalions fighting over a barren table.

However, the big problem with terrain is that it's even more of a storage nightmare than figures. Small detail stuff like the Ainsty accessories can be stored pretty much like figures, but the big stuff needs big space. And given our climate, most of it really needs heated storage space to avoid ruination through exposure to the elements.

Purpose-built sets are really nice and quite frankly the only way to make really really nice terrain. Unfortunately, they are inflexible and a real nightmare to store.

Urban Development Thus I'm always on the lookout for ways to build modular, multi-purpose and easily storable terrain. I've had this idea about upscaling my steam tunnel idea into generic interior spaces, but it's been on the back burner until now. The upcoming Heist campaign games gave the spark to get this stuff moving.

I already had a pile of 12" squares I had had cut from hardboard. The stuff is pretty cheap and it doesn't really cost any more to have an entire sheet cut up when you get around to it. I just needed the walls. I could have gone with foamcore, but I wanted these pieces to be sturdy and stackable so I went to the hardware store and picked a couple of pieces of 45x15mm wood. This doesn't really cost anything either. Wood is also easy to work with and very sturdy compared to most modelling materials.

So, now I have nine geomorphic, multi-purpose, modular and stackable basic interior tiles in the works, plus some extra wall pieces to go with them. Once these are finished, I think I'll try adding some smaller interior rooms from foamcore. All modular and so on, ofcourse.

But will these be ready for next week?
