Resolutions June: Greetings From Africa

Jun 24, 2014 08:51

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Tribal Warriors Me and my big mouth... When I claim I have everything nicely in the bag, I actually struggle to make it happen. It's summer time and even when the weather is not very nice, I'm still quite a lot away from home. Well, at least I managed to get these done.

These figures are part of the Darkest Africa figures I got many moons ago. Unlike many of our projects, we actually played quite a few games in the colonial setting. However, the campaign dwindled away before these figures ever got painted. The problems with the rule system were becoming painfully evident and I never really got the others invested in the modelling side.

Since then I've returned to Africa a couple of times. I love the visuals, but it is a bit hard to get a good game going, especially if you're not into machinegunning the natives (which does seem to be the draw for some colonial period gamers).

Tribal Warriors I still have quite a few of these left, so expect to see more of them in the next few months. The remaining aim is to paint up 24 foot or 12 cavalry every month to the end of the year. If successful, that should pretty much empty my 19th century box. At the very least I will go through the tribal warriors. The rest of the stuff is much more mishmash and it will take some thinking to form sensible sets out of it.

Oh, the big mouth part? The crossbowmen are still very much in their undercoat and given that I'm leaving on a trip soon they may stay that way... rest assured, that project is not buried yet, though. It will come straight after these, and the Gundams and VOTOMS and Chinese marines and... argh! What have gotten myself into again?
