Resolutions August: African Invasion Continues

Aug 11, 2014 11:09

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Tribal Warriors When it comes to painting miniatures, well prepared is really half done. I had cleaned, assembled, based and primed the big tribal warrior batch previously. Therefore when it came to actually painting them, everything went extremely smoothly. Considering I finished the pikemen first, I doubt I have painted another resolutions set this snappily. And this even with the multiple styles of figures in the set, including all those tribal masks crying out for custom treatment.

And I have the next set pretty much prepped ready also. Pretty much because it seems I made a counting error at some point and there are only 23 figures waiting in the queue. Since I ran out of basic tribal warriors, I will have to fill the ranks with another white explorer. That covers September.

Then I have two packs of Masai warriors (with the head dresses obviously) and more explorers, British officers and Victorian ladies to fill out the set for October.

Tribal Warriors Which really only leaves November and December.

I think we will journey into the west with the coming winter...

But now I can get back to stuff I really wanted to do. I'm a bit torn what to do with the resolutions for the next year. On the other hand it is supposed to be something you wouldn't get done otherwise. While on the other hand it would be really nice if was something I was actually enthusiastic about.

We'll see. Meanwhile, stay tuned for Slammers games.

Now you seem to be back on a subject I'm very keen on too! I think I dog up my half made Masais or Asandes, can't remeber now. But how about the rules and games?

It would be nice to use these too... maxxon Aug 13, 2014 07:54

Haven't really thought that far, though by the end of the year I should have close to 400 figures ready for battle.

That might actually be enough even for Black Powder.

I think I need more movement trays.

Black Powder could be it, some doubts about, how it handles breechloaders vs. spears as well it's quite rigid on troop formations. Let' see...

I've seen BP scenarios for Sudan at least, so I guess somebody is playing that. Given the way the game works, the redcoats are kickass in melee too. Not sure how you'd do troops that are really good at shooting but crap at melee (e.g. boers).

In any case some sort of mass battle rules would be necessary.

Chris Peers' newer Africa set Death in the Dark Continent could be an option.
