This Time It Really Is Trains

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Armored Train Ok, I painted my armored train. This was an experiment in using my airbrush with Vallejo colored primers and freehanding camo. Not entirely successful, I think the Vallejo dunkelgelb primer is too dark for this scale and subsequent wash. I think I will lighten it next time considerably.

It's partly the too dark base color but also partly the fact that I just can't do freehand camo with an airbrush, not in this scale at least. The outcome looks too muted. Ironically, it's actually pretty good camo. It's just that when you're doing a gaming piece, you don't really want the camo to work -- you want the pattern to stand out.

I also finished the tanks on my desk. These were a hodge podge collection of Flames of War tanks I got from a sale -- more Shermans that I don't really need, Russian T-60 light tanks for a Russian force I don't have and a couple more StuGs for my almost equally non-existent German force.

Tanks Galore The funny thing is that I don't even play Flames of War. I've tried it a couple of times and I think the basic rules are ok. But I think there's too much emphasis on special rules, different list compositions and tournament play -- none of which I have interest in.

So I have something of a 15mm WWII collection and no idea what to do with it... well, that doesn't really differ from any of my other collections so I don't mind.

That said, the production numbers for September are not going to look stellar. The film festival has started meaning I won't have a whole lot of time for brushwork until next month. Should be able to keep my figurative head above water, but not by much. I have started up a batch of orcs, but no guarantees they'll be finished. And the figures for October Resolutions are picked but not really started.

Space station In other news, I should be getting a big pile of various Kickstarter proceeds soon. The only one that has actually arrived so far is the Battlesystem card terrain, which I assembled and it's really great for card terrain. But at the end of the day, it is still card terrain. And yet another thing I have no idea what to do with. It's just a wee bit too fragile to be left at the club for general use.

I gotta stop buying stuff just because it's cheap.

Forthcoming: Hobby room cleanup and reorganization. Yes, again.
