Resolutions November: Warpath!

Nov 14, 2014 09:11

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Apaches Brave Apaches are on the warpath! After finishing the African conquest, we move to a whole new continent to set wrongs right. To that end, the forces of freedom and liberty need some brave warriors to carry the flag, and who would fit that bill better than a warband of Apaches?

And my selection of US Cavalry figures wasn't large enough to make a proper batch, so Mr. G's merry band it is.

These are all very old Foundry models I bought very long ago. In addition I decided to use them as a test bed for my new Foundry skin tones set. They are all done in glorious Dallimore 3-color using the Native American Flesh palette. I'm actually pretty happy with the results. Some of the newer Foundry paints I've got have been a little bit disappointing, but this set was pure gold. Or flesh... oh, whatever.

Now I just have to come up with something to test the entire range. There's eight colors in the set, plus the six-tone expert palette and then the two old regular flesh colors ofcourse... Hmmm... I think I know a good subject for those...

Apaches These were actually pretty fun to paint and didn't take that long despite almost no cutting of corners. Almost... truth be told, these figures could use a little bit more love in the detailing department. That's the problem with these large batches. By the time I get to detailing, I'm pretty fed up with doing the same thing over and over again and just want to finish the figures. Thus little things like painting the tips of the feathers black are forgotten...

Also, I tried a little bit of patterning on the cloth, but the results are mixed. I'm not quite sure how I should approach it... maybe adding the pattern on top of a ready single-tone piece of cloth is not the way to go? Maybe I should approach like I was knitting (which I can't do) and start from one end and just change the color back and forth to create the pattern?

Well, the next batch will have some figures with ample room to try that out. Let's see.

P.S. Fear not, Mr. G will make an appearance next month, with some opponents you might not have expected...

P.P.S. In case you were wondering why the VOTOMS stuff is not in the diary -- it's because I'm not painting them. It's a painting diary, not a basing diary. When I get to the ones that actually need painting, they'll be there.
