The 500: Day 23

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Xmas 2013 Merry Christmas! Saint Gelgoog wishes pleasent holidays for all the nice robots out there!

Meanwhile, the secret workshop slaved away another five hours mostly spreading basing goo. As I've mentioned, basing 15mm figures is actually a very time-consuming part. It probably takes almost as much as the actual painting. I had to switch to a desert theme in their basing because I've basically run out of all the other basing materials...

Work is progressing very well on the power armor troopers and the weirdly familiar ones. The only real question is when I can slip away for long enough to actually finish their basing. If it doesn't happen today, it doesn't happen. I have enough slack in the schedule to take a little time off.

Jungle Fighters The jungle fighters and the security detail got their time in the limelight. I stuck more static grass bushes on the jungle fighters' base than probably any other base before, but they still don't look quite jungle-like to me. Maybe a few low trees or something, but I didn't have anything handy...

The security detail really should have gone on city or street bases, but I didn't have those handy either and I really hate it when you can see the figures' bases on a multibase. Thus I scraped together the last scraps of the Vallejo Dark Earth and went for a generic gravel base instead. They are actually pretty nice figures, it's just a shame that the pose variation is extremely poor. There's basically only two trooper poses, one with cap and one with helmet plus a couple of command ones. And naturally the only female figure in the lot is wearing a tank top...

Security Detail They could pass as modern figures quite easily, though the mix of US style helmets and FAMAS rifles is a bit odd.

Also watched a stretch of ZZ while the ham was in the oven. Something weird about it. The Dublin stuff was strong, but now there's pointless filler episodes almost equal to the start of the series. I know there's a lot to come, but we are running out of episodes... It's starting to appear Tomino saved the true climax to Char's Counterattack, which bears rewatching.
