Here We Go Again...

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Imperial Muster After a whole month without buying anything, I caved in almost immediately and sent a small order to Mantic. My excuse is that I really needed more of that nice brown paint for basing but 15 bottles of it seemed a bit excessive just to get the free shipping so I chucked in a Christmas Crazy box and Project Pandora as well. Plus some silver paint, because my old Miniature Paints silver is running out and I'm left without a good midtone silver.

Funny how painting 1500 models can drain your paint pots...

When I was posting about the crazy 500 project, some commenters predicted that I wouldn't touch a brush for a couple of months after completing this.

I've been on the Internet too long to give such comments much thought, but nonetheless I can say they were wrong.

I'm at it again even though I have increasingly less idea what to use the stuff for. I started painting the Warzone figures in the pictures mostly to get rid of the box they were being stored in.

Imperial Muster Theoretically I could go cold turkey with buying and not be wanting for things to paint in years... even at 1000+ models a year rate. But I'm still too much of a gamer to completely settle for just painting for painting's sake.

Even if the actual game never materializes, it is the thought of a coherent gaming project that really galvanizes me into action. Maybe it's the associated planning phase? If you're just painting, you're just picking up the next model in line and there is very little planning and anticipation associated with it.

I don't think quitting buying is a very realistic goal, but I still think it's worth it to have a little control over it. I will be keeping the count and I will really try to avoid buying anything I won't be painting immediately. Honest...

Maybe I should start selling off some of the unpainted stuff? I've never sold my painted models, I just don't have the heart to do it, but even though it sometimes comes back to nag me I can part with the unpainted stockpile.

The last time I did it was when the engine on my Porsche went kaput and I really needed the cash to fix it -- but I'm not opposed to it on principle. It's just that it's a lot of work for very little monetary return.

Imperial Muster The thing is that locally there is a market for unpainted GW stuff of the latest edition, less of a market for older GW editions and basically no market for anything else. Going abroad the postage will kill any deals.

And basically all my stuff is in the anything else category. What sellable GW stuff I had I mostly already got rid of. Arguing over pennies with some scrooge just pisses me off. I'm not looking to make a killing, but neither do I need to make the sale to get rent money. Buyers looking to exploit someone's bad fortune or lack of knowledge just spoil my mood.

I wouldn't even be opposed to donating some stuff to a good cause, but there's a very good likelihood it will just end up in someone else's pile of shame.

Well, enough about that.

The latest temptation is Black Tree's sale. Their HYW figures are really nice and watching Game of Thrones put in a mood for some pseudo-medieval action. Besides, I already have the couple hundred archers, I really need someone to show them how real men fight, right? Can't have just massed archers line up and turn each other into pincushions. That'd be like the real War of the Roses...
