Resolutions May: More Pointy Pansies

May 14, 2015 10:29

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Elven Militia So I went back to the elves for May, but this time I decided to paint up some House Crystal Lotus troops. These are elven militia. If I recall correctly, they were not part of the initial launch of figures but added a little later with one of the supplements. They were possibly intended to give the elves at least one cheap unit type, as most of the others were pretty points heavy.

They have distinctively lighter equipment than the other elves, which also makes them a bit simpler to paint. I went for this blue-on-blue theme on a whim, basically I just wanted to see what it would look like.

I think it turned out pretty well. I feared there would not be enough contrast between the two blues, but that's not the case at all. Possibly because they're not washed with blue ink (which tends to be a very strong color) but rather full 3-color using Foundry paints.

Yes, this is a smaller batch this time but it's all the militia I had. Chronopia units are actually very small, so we're fully within the limits of the resolution rules. I'm actually working on a few other elves, but I also wanted to see if doing a smaller batch would leave more time for painting something else.

Elven Militia Theoretically yes, in practice not really. I'd have the time if I took the time, but to do that I'd need to find motivation first. My reorganization is proceeding, but the hobby room is still a giant mess and I still haven't felt the need to play any games.

And summer is coming, which traditionally diminishes the inclination to lock yourself in a small dark room...

I still have a bunch of elves to do, but I'm not sure whether I should keep doing them or switch to Firstborn or maybe the orcs, which I actually quite like. But first, a few Dream Warriors and a couple of characters need to be done...
