Resolutions October: Ironing The Guard

Oct 12, 2015 12:55

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Iron Guard Hey, we're not even halfway into October, and the Iron Guard are already here. These stalward defenders of humanity are another example of retro-cloning, i.e. I tried to paint them in the same style I used about ten years ago when I did the previous batch of these.

Whether there's much point in doing that remains debatable, given that there's only six originals and 16 in the new batch. I could have done these in whatever style and as long as I kept the same general color scheme, the old ones could have been lost in the ranks.

Well, it was a fun excercise nonetheless.

These are actually pretty simple figures to paint, given that they are almost completely encased in plate armor. If I'd chosen the paint scheme today, I would probably have gone for more colorful shields.

I have only a few Firstborn foot troops left to paint: a couple of Black Sisters and a squad of Desert Crusaders. I'll probably do them next, which leaves only December open...
