Project V: Cleaning It Up

Mar 21, 2012 08:55

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Spent last night cleaning up and priming two Vietnamese infantry companies. 168 teeny weeny models. Not really my idea of fun, but it had to be done.

My previous experience with Battlefront models has been very good, clean crisp castings with very few imperfections. Unfortunately the VC were not quite so good. Some had very pronounced mold line issues and were quite frankly very bothersome to clean up. I'm also somewhat concerned about the weak ankles of the figures stressed by the cleaning process.

I'm a bit stymied becuase practically all of my experience is with larger 28mm figures. With them, I take the utmost care to scrape and file away even the tiniest molding imperfections, because the painting process of washing and drybrushing will make the stand out quite horribly.

It seems to me this level of cleanliness is just impossible with 15mm figures. How much attention do people put into this sort of thing with smaller figures? Yeah, sure the mold line won't be visible from three feet away -- but it will still bother me.

Maybe I should try some Peter Pig models next.

Sorry no pics this time. Next update, I promise.
