Project V: The Washed Masses

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

The Cong are recruiting I was a bit hesitant to do all the 168 figures at one time in case I didn't like the outcome. So I took two sticks of figures (about 20 in total) and did them according to the color chart I pulled off Battlefront's pages. This test batch is waiting for a wash in the first picture.

The thing with these figures is that they are pretty easy to paint because the color palette is so limited. You basically have the skin, the clothes and the gun. Without any detailing, that's three of four colors depending on whether you have wooden stocks or not. That's also the downside. The figures get pretty boring when there is no contrast.

I actually painted the webbing in the first batch with a different color, the same green grey as the shoes (Vallejo 886 -- I didn't have stone grey 884 handy) while the uniform in done in khaki (Vallejo 988). These two colors are pretty close and after the sepia wash you can't really tell them apart anymore.

The Cong are recruiting So for the next batch I threw historical accuracy out of the window and painted the webbing using a lighter beige color (Vallejo 917 probably). This creates more contrast and makes the webbing stand out better. I think it was a good choice.
