Project V: Charlie Gets Blasted Again

Sep 03, 2012 10:18

Yours truly faking painting.

Note the beverage of the gods.

Hot LZ This time the brave anti-imperialists attempt to thwart the devious plan of the American opressors. Without tank support they would surely fall before the people's righteous justice!

The Americans were quick to establish a defensive perimeter around their LZ. After an initial attempt to push out, they pretty much sat tight and let their gunships do all the work.

The valiant freedom fighters made several attempts to bring the fight to the Americans, but unfortunately they were repulsed each time. Finally the game ground down to a bodycount 5-0 victory for the imperialists.

Lessons learned:

The scenario doesn't really force the Americans to move at all, which can get pretty boring. The gunships are free to blow VC force concentrations apart with relative impunity.

Hot LZ The way Flames of War works, elite troops hunkering down at long range become impossible to hit, thus rendering my long range support weapons useless. Closing to AK range is easier said than done.

My two-platoon infantry companies are actually probably the worst size possible. They're not really large enough to enjoy the increased pin limit, but their size already makes them very cumbersome to move and position.

Since I'm usually on the move assaulting, my LMG groups are mostly useless point sinks that never get to fire.

I think I'm going to drop the LMGs and try one-platoon companies next time.

This game still has way way too many special rules...

I also ordered Peter Pig's "Men of Company B" rules. Let's see if they produce a more interesting game.
